Dipak Kalra is a clinical senior lecturer at CHIME (UCL). He plays a leading European role in research and development of EHR architectures and prototyping and evaluation of new systems for health care records. Key activities include the GEHR, Synapses, SynEx, EHCR Support Action, Medicate and 6WINIT projects within EU R&TD Framework Programmes, since 1991.
He is now leading a CEN TC251 Task Force to revise the current EHCR Communications standard to produce a definitive standard (EN). He is currently involved in an MRC e-Science project, CLEF, which is developing a pseudonymised repository of cancer records and a query workbench to support bio-informatics research. He co-ordinates the development and deployment of an NHS-accredited general practice computer system in north London. He teaches the module on Electronic Health Records within the UCL Health Informatics MSc. He was a GP Principal for eight years in a deprived part of east London and led the Medical Audit Advisory Group of that health authority for nine years.
