[Oship] Email Clients
Hi All, I am very happy to see the interest building in OSHIP and openEHR. One thing that is an issue though is what email client you are using. I digitally sign all of my emails. They are not encrypted but are wrapped in a GPG envelope. Every email client works according to the RFC specs on this issue EXCEPT the free ones from Microsoft. That is outlook Express and (I think) the new one is called Microsoft Mail or something like that. When I sign my emails (which I think everyone should be doing, but that is another issue), those non-compliant clients get my emails as an attachment UNLESS I include and attachment. Then it seems to work fine. So most of the time (when I remember; I add a silly little graphic. Attached here; that explains the issue. But even then that doesn't work because corporate and university mail servers seem to think that digitally signed mails are malware and they discard them, sometimes without even notifying you. I am sending this one email, unsigned, so that you will know of the issues. OSHIP members can just about be guaranteed to hear from me at least once per day except for certain periods and I will announce those ahead of time (unless I do not see the bus coming and step out into the street). In that case Roger Erens and/or Sergio Miranda Freire will step in to guide OSHIP. If you are using one of those MS free clients, then I recommend that you switch to Thunderbird if at all possible. I do realize that this isn't always under your control though. So if we have members that MUST use those non-standard clients, please let me know and I will try to remember to put the attachment on my emails. If I forget; you can usually read my email by selecting what appears to be an attachment.
