Thanks, Tony Dr. Tony Shannon Consultant in Emergency Medicine, Leeds Teaching Hospitals Clinical Lead for Informatics, Leeds Teaching Hospitals Chair, Clinical Review Board, openEHR Foundation +44.789.988 5068 tony.shannon@nhs.net __ -------- Original Message -------- Subject: [openEHR-announce] openEHR: IP, SNOMED CT, IHTSDO collaboration Date: Mon, 5 Jul 2010 13:29:11 +0100 From: Thomas Beale <thomas.beale@oceaninformatics.com> To: openehr-announce <openehr-announce@openehr.org> Posted on behalf of the openEHR Board There have been recent additional suggestions posted on the openEHR wiki in response to the consultation about future licensing arrangements for openEHR IP, as part of the Foundation’s policy and aim of transferring it under suitable and sustainable international governance. The context of this consultation was set out in the announcement in April. It is timely to report that the openEHR core team and senior representatives of IHTSDO are engaged in a wide-ranging discussion, exploring how best to work together to ensure that those who wish to use openEHR archetypes and SNOMED CT can do so more easily and effectively in the future. The licensing and governance framework for SNOMED terminology is well-established. We are currently exploring, in detailed practical terms that build on the Memorandum of Understanding agreed last year, how best to align efforts to create a sustainable international governance framework for openEHR archetypes that use SNOMED terminology. We expect to have good progress to report on this discussion, by the autumn of 2010. The Foundation would welcome related discussion and advice from the users and adopters of openEHR, including views on how further alignment between archetypes/templates and standardised terminology, such as SNOMED CT, would/should impact the specification, governance and licensing of clinical content and development of Electronic Health Records. Tony Shannon has kindly agreed to moderate this discussion on the openEHR clinical list and distill the key points onto the wiki. In the light of these developments, we are extending the consultation period on licensing options until the end of August. David Ingram, Sam Heard, Dipak Kalra, for the Foundation Board.
